ABSTRACT

Sugar cane is one of the biggest sources of sugar production in Indonesia which continually increase every year. The enhancement of sugar consumption is not able to be provided by domestic production so that the sugars have to be imported to fulfill the needs. This problem occurred because the production of sugar cane might not show a real effect to the needs of sugar. The factors that can cause suboptimal sugar cane productivity are bad tillage and the use of non guaranteed seeds or seedlings in quantity and quality. To increase the quality and quantity of seedlings, the multiplication of sugar cane was done using bud chip system in some varieties that had been given plant growth regulators. The research was conducted in State Polytechnic of Jember on June to August 2013. The result showed that the application Sugar cane variety PS 862 and PS 881 affect the growth of sugar cane on the number of leaves, while the use of variety ROC affect on the plant height., The plant growth regulator that affected the growth of seedlings is coconut water, while the interaction between sugar cane varieties and application of plant growth regulators is at V3P1 treatment (the application of Variety PS 862 and coconut water) which affected the growth of sugar cane seedlings on the number of leaves.
