ABSTRACT

The use of Calcium oxide as heterogeneous catalysts aims to determine the effect of reaction time and the influence of the number of heterogeneous catalysts (calcium oxide) in the transesterification process also to determine the best formula by all treatments through the character of biodiesel from waste cooking oil produced, include yield, density, viscosity, acid number, water content and  flash point of biodiesel. The method used using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors. The first factor is the concentration of calcium oxide catalyst (A): (4, 8, 12%) and the second factor is the reaction time (B): (30, 60 minutes). The use of calcium oxide as heterogeneous catalysts is influence significantly on the decreasing  of acid value and water content. While no effect on the viscosity, density, yield and flash point. Reaction time has significant effect just on the water content of biodiesel and has no effect on the viscosity, density, acid value, yield and flash point. Based on character biodiesel and Duncan tests, the best treatment by 4% calcium oxide as heterogeneous catalysts used and  30 minutes of reaction time in the transesterification process. The character of the biodiesel best treatment among : 72.83%  of yield, 889.93 kg / m3 of density, 4.39001 cSt of kinematic viscosity, the acid number about 0,459 mgKOH / g of oil,  0.09% of water content and the  flash point about 172oC. All the character tests results are accordance with the criteria of SNI-04-7182-2006 except water content.
