ABSTRACT
Heart disease is the cause of 1 in 4 deaths worldwide. Hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor for heart disease, which is characterized by an increase in total cholesterol levels accompanied by an increase in LDL levels. Foods high in fiber can reduce LDL levels in the blood, psyllium husks. High fiber intake is associated with an increase in HDL levels in the blood. Psyllium husks contain 2.4 grams/3 grams of fiber. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving Psyllium (Psyllium husk) husk to LDL levels and HDL levels in white rats (Rattus norvegicuss) hypercholesterolemic wistar strains. This type of research is true-experimental with pre-post test with control group design. This study used 27 male wistar rats with a body weight of 150-250 grams aged 2-3 months. Rat were divided into 3 groups, namely the negative control group, positive control and treatment. The negative control group is only given standard feed, the positive control group is treated with 2 ml/head/day of duck egg yolk with feeding tube into gastric, and the treatment group was given psyllium husk as much as 0.25gram/5gram standard feed/100gramBB/day. Data analysis used Paired T-Test and One Way Anova test followed by Post Hoc test. The average change after administering psyllium husk to LDL levels was 13.8 ml/dl to 31.27 ml/dl and HDL levels were 25.13 mg/dl to 24.42 mg/dl. Psyllium husk administration had a significant effect on increasing LDL levels (p = 0,000) and does not significantly influence HDL levels (p = 0,691).
