SUMMARY
Guiding Activities at Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, Siti Aminatur Rosyidah, 2018, 56 Pages, Language, Communication and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Enik Rukiati, S.Pd.,M.Pd (Supervisor) and Pipiet Dhanayu Pratiwindya, S.Pd (Field Supervisor).
Internship Program is a company training that must be conducted at the last semester. This activity has a purpose to apply the student’s skill in a work place. The period of Internship Program is 384 hours for Diploma III and 512 hours for Diploma IV. The Internship Program gives the opportunity for the students for applying their skills and competences that they have already got from learning activities in college . The student choose the recommended place by themselves which is appropriate with their need. The writer chose Taman Pintar Yogyakarta as a place of her internship program.
There were important activities which the writer always do in her daily activities in Taman Pintar. The writer learnt how to be a good guide, that must be explaining the whole objects related with science, answer the customer’s questions, have a lot of knowledge about object in the surrounding area and give a good impression so that it can attract the tourist to know more about the educational objects there. A guide must be able to give the explanation clearly related to the tourism object. Besides, a tour guide must have good skills to be a professional guide, such as good communication skill, good attitude, and competences solving problem skill, patient, friendly, humble, smart and trusted by the tourists. Not only about guide but the writer also learnt about administration in front of the office and Public relation division.
In this Internship Program, The writer was placed as a guide in Taman Pintar Yogyakarta. But there are some activities that the writer did beside being a guide in Taman Pintar. The writer also was placed in Public relation division where this division divided into several jobs. They were clipping, handling email and social media of Taman Pintar, handling the information services, translating the text, and guiding.
From general activities done at Taman Pintar, the writer focused on being a guide in guiding division because the writer could spend much time in interacting and communicating with the tourists directly, both local and foreign tourist in the some area in Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, such as, Kampung Kerajinan Zone, Paud Zone, Dome Area Zone, Oval Ticket, Indonesiaku Zone, Lalu Lintas Zone, Bahari Zone, and others. In guiding the tourists, sometimes the writer also got some problems related to the tourist itself or the object in Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, such as the difficulties in explaining the props specifically object related with science. As a guide for tourists who come in Taman Pintar, the writer was able to apply her knowledge and skills that already got from the lecturing and practicum classes in English Study Program, such as speaking and listening skill, computer skill, Public Relation, English for Secretary, Translation, and the others. In addition,the writer could also improve her communication skill when she had interaction with the tourists who come to Taman Pintar Yogyakarta.
After finishing the Internship Program, the writer have some suggestions for Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, Students of English Study Program. and English Study Program. First is for Taman Pintar Yogyakarta, is better to increase the quality of props especially when there are some props cannot work well. If is better to exchange or repair the props. Second is for Students of English Study Program. they must prepare several things needed, such as have a good communication skill and have a good attitude as a guide in order to help them in doing the Internship Program in Taman Pintar Yogyakarta. The last is for English Study Program, to facilitated more practical course and supporting facilities for the students to practice more their knowledge and skill especially in speaking classes.
