SUMMARY
Translating an English E-Book Entitled Operating System Concepts Ninth Edition on Chapter 1 Page 3 To 23, Ismia Liainur Ifadho, F31151786, 2018, 25pages, Language, Communication, and Tourism Department, Politeknik Negeri Jember, Titik Ismailia, S.Pd., M.Pd. (Supervisor).


While globalization takes its time, Grasu (2017) said that“translation is as important – if not more so – as it was several millennia ago”. It is because translation is the way how people get understanding the other languages.Translation is used in every fields, including in the field of education. Here, Taylor B (2017) said that “translation is the key to overcome the language barriers which are tough hurdles in the world of education where teaching methods and source material can differ greatly”. The barriers are exist when the lecturers use module in other language for their students who are not all of them are able to understand well its language.
Like Information Technology Department in Jember State Polytechnic that uses an English e-book as the module when conducting the teaching and learning activities.The using of English e-book itself should be supporting the learning process. But, from the information the writer got, the students of IT Department were hard to understand because of the limitation in understanding the language. Moreover, the lecturer said that the students seem unexcited and passive during the class. So, the objective of this final project is to translate an English e-book of Information Technology Department entitled “Operating System Concepts, Ninth Edition” on chapter 1 page 3 to 23 into Bahasa Indonesia.
In finishing this project, the writer applied process and procedure of translation. The process was from Nida and Taber (1969in Larson, 1984) by combining it with Newmark’s (1988). The writer uses the first two processes of Nida and Taber and the last process of Newmark. Then, the processes are understanding the meaning or message of SL text; transferring the analyzed message in source language into the target language messages; and naturalness. While, the procedure was from Vinay and Darbelnet (1995).
The translation result was Indonesian text that saved in PDF format. However, it was not full in Indonesia due to several terms of Information Technology Department and the information in the figures were not translated into Indonesia, they were still in English.However, after conducting the result, the writer got useful things. First, the writer got learning the terms of Information Technology as she could increase her vocabularies. Second, the writer was able to apply her skill in reading and writing. Third, the writer could apply the translation theory while she learnt how to translate a text well.
Finally, the writer has suggestions for several sides. Firstly, for the students and lecturer of IT Department, they can use the translation result as the learning material to help them in conducting the teaching and learning process. Secondly, for the students of English Study Program, they can continue in translating the e-book, especially for the students who like writing and reading. Thirdly, for the lecturer in translation subject, they can support more the students in translating activities in the class to prepare their final project in translation.
