ABSTRACT


Since the beginning of operation, PG PesantrenBaru has been integrated with cogeneration system of bagasse-based which classified as CHP system. This research willevaluate CHP system in scope of thermodynamics with an exergy analysis method, so can be known number of distribution two energy forms of cogeneration and system performance. CHP system produces two energy forms simultaneously from one primary energy source, namely the form of mechanical energy (power) is 69,098.3 kW and heat is 2,662 kW. While the performance of CHP system tends not optimal. Performance of CHP system is affected by equilibrium between magnitude of exergy destruction and exergy efficiency of the system. More fundamentally, exergy analysis is able to interpret factors that cause irregularities of a system according to Second Law of Thermodynamics. Factors that cause a system's irregularities is described by irreversibility (inability to reverse). There are two types of irreversibility, namely internal irreversibility and external irreversibility. Exergy destruction refers to internal irreversibility and influenced by entropy flow of internal irreversibility that appears from process of heat transfer spontaneously. The heat transfer spontaneously allows exergy destruction to occur only in heat exchanger components or components that involve temperature differences in the process.
