Internship program is a program that is held by politeknik Negeri Jember to apply and get new skills and knowledge while they faced the real work, such as company training.The writer chose Singgasana Hotel Surabayaas a place of internship program because Singgasana Hotel Surabaya is an appropriate place to apply the writer’s English skills. The writer could apply all materials that the writer got from college such as English for Hotel and Restaurants, English for Correspondence, English for Secretary, Public Relation, and Public Speaking.
Singgasana Hotel Surabaya is a 4 star hotel located at Jl. Gunungsari Surabaya built on 7 hectares of land in the hills and located very strategically in the middle of the city can be reached only 20 minutes from Juanda International Airport, 15 minutes from downtown Surabaya.Throne Hotel is one of the hotels that has its own distinctive characteristics because of its horizontal, unique building and resort concept.
During internship programat Singgasana Hotel Surabaya, the writerwas placed in Front Office Department. In front office department the writer learned how to handle telephone operator. Telephone operator is assigned to receive / connect the phone, either intended for hotelemployees, or hotel guests. The writer can apply the english skill through interaction with the foreign guests and apply the English especially for Hotel and Restaurant subject as the knowledgethe writer had from college.
The writerdid the internship program during 512 hour.Being a telephone operator really trained her to have a good skill especially in speaking and listening. While doing the writer’s internship program the writer got some problems when handling telephone operator for the first time because the writer did not know how to give information and greeting.The writer trained her self speaking directly with international tourist. The writer got new knowledge and experience at Singgasana Hotel Surabaya. By having such working experience, the writer believed that the writer would be able to work as professional operator.So, Singgasana Hotel Surabaya was appropriate place for the writer to apply every material that the writer had learned from English Study Program.
