ABSTRACT
One of methods to maintain the viability of the String bean's seeds (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) during the period storage uses chemical treatment. It is applying the fumigation treatment as well as the determination of an appropriate period of storage. The research was carried out in January – March 2018 of PT East West Seed Indonesia Jl. Basuki Rachmad Gg SMP 8, No. 19, Muktisari, Tegal Besar, Jember 68132 and Seed Technology Laboratory, Jember State Polytechnic. The research used a factorial Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors and 4 replications. The first factor is the fumigation (A) consist of 2 levels, A0 (without fumigation) and A1 (fumigation). The second factor is the period of storage (B) consist of 3 levels, B0 (Storage for 0 day), B1 (Storage for 30 days), and B2 (storage for 60 days). The research showed that the fumigation treatment has non-significant effect (ns) on germination parameter, growth rate, and simultaneous growth. But, it has a significant effect on the parameters moisture content. The treatment of period storage has non-significant effect (ns) on all parameters of observation power germinate, growth speeds, growth simultaneity, and moisture content. The interaction between treatment fumigant SF and the periods of storage gave significant effect on parameters of growth rate and much more significant on the parameters of the moisture content. Such as, the seed in the fumigation and or without storing (A1B0) has the growth rate for 25,9 %/etmal and moisture content increases on seed treatment in the fumigation without storing (A1B0) becomes 11,33 %.
