ABSTRACT


This study aims to determine the effect of pruning and chicken manure on the production and quality of cucumber seeds (Cucumis sativus L.). This study used Factorial Randomized Block Design with 2 factors. The first factor is pruning (P) which consists of pruning 1 leaf and 1 branch in segment 6-12 (P1), pruning 2 leaves and 2 branches on segment 6-12 (P2), and pruning 3 leaves and 3 branches on segment 6-12 (P3). The second factor is the use of chicken manure (A) which consists of 20 tons/ha (A1), 40 tons/ha (A2), and 60 tons/ha (A3). The parameters observed were 15 HST plant height, 30 HST plant height, number of fulfilled seeds per fruit, number of fulfilled seeds per plant, the weight of seeds per plant, the weight of 1000 seeds, germination of seeds, simultaneous growth of seeds, and speed of growing seeds. The results showed that the treatment of pruning and the interaction of pruning treatments and the use of chicken manure did not give a significant effect on all observed parameters. While the treatment of the use of chicken manure gives a significant effect on the number of fulfilled seeds per fruit (135 seeds), the number of fulfilled seeds per plant (413 seeds), the weight of seeds per plant (9,888 grams), and the weight of 1000 seeds (24,36 grams).
