ABSTRACT



Biodiesel is an alternative fuel obtained from renewable sources such as vegetable ingredients and animal fats. Biodiesel is a fuel that can be used in diesel engines as a substitute for diesel fuel. Vegetable ingredients that have oil content can be used as biodiesel feedstock, for example the neem seeds. The neem seeds that go through the pressing process produce neem oil mixed with gum. The need for a Degumming process to separate oil and sap using 85% phosphoric acid as much as 2% v/v. The need for an esterification process to reduce the free fatty acid content of 2% in neem seed oil.The process of estrification reaction using acid catalyst as much as 5% v/v. The FFA content of ≤2% can be used in the transestrification process to produce methyl esters with the help of catalysts and the length of time in the transestrification process. Abu Cocopeat is used as a catalyst to accelerate the reaction, be more environmentally friendly, not corrosive, and easily separated. This study was designed using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with two factors namely catalyst (K): (6%, 7% and 8%) and reaction time (T): (60 minutes and 120 minutes). Characteristic parameters of biodiesel analyzed included density, viscosity, cetane number, acid number, iodine number, methyl ester level, and heating value adjusted to SNI 7182-2015. The results showed that the highest yield of Cocopeat ash mass treatment was 8% m/v with a time of 120 minutes (K3T2). The results of the K3T2 sample quality testing are, density 887kg/m3, viscosity 34.68 mm2/ s, cetane number 43.22, acid number 1.68 mgKOH/gram, iodine number 14.46 gram/ 100gram, methyl ester level 30.84%, and heating value 47.93 Mj/kg
