ABSTRACT


Engine performance which includes exhaust gas emissions, torque, and power. Exhaust gas emissions is the result of vehicle engine combustion that contains pollutants. While torque is a energy, and power is amount of energy. The purpose of this research is to increase the air quality which will enter the combustion room by adding composite air filters reinforced with natural fibers. This research use experimental method. For torque and power testing carried out at RAT Motor sport Sidoarjo using dynotest, while for exhaust gas emissions testing in automotive engine laboratory Politejnik Negri Jember using gas analyzer. The test results show that the composite air filter reinforced with bambu fiber obtains the engine performance value more optimal than composite air filters reindforced whit other natural fibers whit a power value of 5,1 HP, 8,93 N.m, of torque, exhaust gas emissions CO 1,09 %/Vol, CO2 3,2 Ppm/Vol, HC 57%/Vol, O2 15,40 %/Vol. From the result of the study it was also found that standard air filters were still more optimal than composite air filters reindforced with natural fibers.
