ABSTRACT
The plantation growth is influenced by several factors, consist of: the sun light,
the air, and the soil. The soil is the intermediaries to provide those factors except
the sun light. This study used planting media containing the high level of iron,
which was 253 ppm of marshland taken from Sumberejo village, Ambulu –
Jember. The iron was reduced in the soil. The high level of iron could be
poisoning the plantation growth. This condition could be the main obstacles on
rice production activity especially on marginal area. This study used seven rice
varieties: Inpari variety 13, Sintanur, Towuti, Mekongga, IPB 3S, IR64, and
Ciherang. All varieties were resistant to the iron gripping (Fe) or no gripping on
253 ppm of iron containing. This was shown to the short plant life and the
maturity of plant which was 100 – 116 days, the plant height; including short and
medium size, between 100,58 – 123,96 cm, the potential result 8 - 10 ton per
hectare, qualitative characters of vegetative and generative phase, showing the
morphology character and plant result based on the planted variety description.
Then, it could be designed directed physiology-based rice plantation breeding
program by using the results of the crossbreeding in this study that create the new
strains which are resistant to the iron poisoning and get the high production.
