Promotion Strategies to Increase Sales Nata De Coco In the Business School Unit SMK Negeri 5 Jember

ABSTRACT
Nata de coco is processed coconut water has digestive health benefits for humans. Total industry of nata de coco in Indonesia continues to increase. Data from the Central Bureau of Statistics in 1997 showed that the total production of nata de coco in Indonesia in 1994 and 1995 approximately 44 tons and 48 tons. Data from 1995 to 1996 showed that total production of nata de coco in Indonesia has increased from 48 tons to 3,340 tons. SMK N 5 Jember is one of the agencies that develop business of nata de coco that barriers in selling, because there is no fixed market. Most consumers only from the teachers and students of local class. Therefore, it is needed to do promotions to overcome this, which include direct sales promotions through the students, through put nata de coco products directly to outlets nearby, and take advantage of the existing web. Promotion through the student was done by student promoted and offered nata de coco products as much as 5 pack (2.5 kg)/ students at price determined by the school business unit. This method was able to attract the attention of consumers because almost every sale, all nata de coco were sold out. Sales promotion through the outlet Edamame PT. Mitra Tani 27 was less success because the were no significant interaction such as direct sales even though the products can meet directly with consumers. Sales promotion through the web had not been able to attract because there were much information more prominent, and the display of the web was less attractive.
