Internship Program is one of requirements for Students to gratuate from Politeknik Negeri Jember. This activities are to prepare the students to face challenges in real workplace. Shangri-La Hotel Surabaya is one of the largest hotels in Surabaya. The hotel is an international chain hotel under ownership and management by Kwok group that based in Hongkong. I choose Shangri-La hotel as the place to conduct my Internship Program to apply my knowledge of English for Hotel and Restaurant and practice my English skills.
The internship program has been conducted for three months in Shangri-la Hotel Surabaya. It started from 21st March 2017 up to 20th June 2017. I got a chance to learn many things in Shangri-la Hotel Surabaya especially in Front Office Department as GRO (Guest Relation Officer). GRO is one of the job descriptions in charge in front office department in Shangri-la Hotel Surabaya. I got an opportunity to handle jobs in Front Office. The activities during Internship Program were escorting guests in room upon check in, handling guest upon check out in counter, making welcome card, making welcome back card, serving welcome drink, standing by glass door and lift attendant.
So, after finishing the job training in Shangri-la Hotel Surabaya, I got new experiences and knowledge about hospitality. Having conducted Internship Program, it will maintain a good relationship between Shangri-la Hotel Surabaya and Politeknik Negeri Jember, in order to provide internship program place. It is also beneficial for the students to enrich their knowledge about hotel terms and vocabularies, so that the students will adapt with hotel environment faster.
