Internship program is a company training that should be done to graduate from Politeknik Negeri Jember especially for three years diploma education. The students should be able to apply their knowledge that they got while doing study in college, Especially for English Study Program. There are many companies trained the students to do the internship program such as hotel, tourism services, tour and travel company, agro tourism company. In doing the internship program I decided to choose Kusuma Agrowisata as a place to conduct my internship program.
Kusuma Agrowisata is one of the agro tourism companies in East Java located in Batu city. As a big company, it runs business in agro tourism. In Kusuma Agrowisata, I did lots of activities deals with tourism activities such as providing guide in serving its guests, especially for domestic tourists. I choose this company as my internship program place because I believed that I had good skills in English and appropriate knowledge to work in Kusuma Agrowisata.
In Kusuma Agrowisata, I did some activities in Agrotourism Division such as receptionist, marketing, outbound, Alamanda Resto and Guiding division. But I only focused on Guiding Division, because this division can help me to increase and improve my skill to communicate with the guests, especially for domestic tourists.
I was placed in Guiding Division because it is the most suitable job for me. As a guide, I did some activities related to guide jobs. There were welcoming guest, introducing and greeting, accompanying the guests go to plantations area, giving information about Kusuma Agrowisata, explaining the ways to pick the fruits appropriately and the last was accompanying the guest to the last destination based on the ticket and closing activity. Being a guide, I also got many problems while guiding the domestic tourists there, such as when I got difficulties to understood every guest’s language because some guests usually used their native language. So I tried to fix the problems with listen them carefully.
Finally, I finished my Internship Program for about 384 hours. Being a guide really trained me to have a good skill especially in speaking and listening. I trained myself speaking directly with international tourist. I got lots knowledge and great experiences in public speaking. By having such working experiences, I believed that I would be able to work as professional guide.
